In Residence at Sip & Sonder provides a platform for Black and Brown creatives, academics, and community leaders and organizers to share programming that celebrates and explores the rich cultural tapestry of Black and Brown communities, thereby fostering dialogue, creativity, and community connection.  From music to well-being to civic engagement and everything in between, In Residence is here to amplify Black and Brown voices and experiences.

THE BLACK TIME TRAVEL PROJECT

STUDIO SYMONÉ

THE BLACK TIME TRAVEL PROJECT by Black Girl Rising LA will explore the ways in which Black feminist thought can guide is in documenting our past, present and future experiences. These workshops will be part guided lecture, and part interactive art workshop, using papercrafts and archival methods like zine-making, collaging, scrapbooking, letter writing, and time capsule creation. No matter where you are in your practice, pull up and create with us. Creating feels better in community!

STUDIO SYMONÉ by Darian Harvin will host Studio Hours—weekly work session roundtables where folks can come to work, study, and contribute to Darian’s first edition of the Studio Symoné newspaper zine, which will focus on telling stories in the Los Angeles beauty communities.  And every other Friday, wind down your workday with Darian at Sounds from the Lab, as she spins the perfect vibe to ease you into the weekend.

WOMANIST WAYS

WOMANIST WAYS: A GATHERING OF BLACK WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP by When We Gather Consulting is a 3-part series celebrating Black women’s unique ways of being, knowing, and leading.  This series will emphasize key womanist concepts such as self-love, self-determination, as well as nourishment & self-care.  In community, we will engage in the practice of sharing counternarratives, explore individual strengths and values, define personal self-care routines, and engage with thought leadership anchored in healing, leadership, and growth centering the experiences of Black women.

THE CYPHER SESSIONS with Dr. Byron Young is a fun, community-based education program where we deconstruct Black music to ignite discussion amongst participants around social justice and emotional-health topics that affect them.  Just bring your minds, mobile phones, love of music, and openness to share your ideas!  Co-sponsored by Sonder Impact.

GOOD FRIDAYS

GOOD FRIDAYS is a night of creative worship curated by Good Fridays, a creative worship cohort that cultivates space for the community to come together to offer their gifts to God, serving as a bridge for people who might not come into a church / bible study setting, but who still have a deep desire to learn about God.  Through music, art, and reflection, they explore the transformative journey of faith.

BASQUIAT TAUGHT ME

BASQUIAT TAUGHT ME is a painting workshop that delves into how music serves as a powerful source of inspiration and support in creating art.  Curated by What's Ya Vibe?, an arts organization that offers creativity workshops, murals, and design, blending art and wellness to support self-expression and personal growth.  The workshop highlights how Basquiat drew from history while reflecting the contemporary world in his work, encouraging participants to channel their own experiences into creative expression.  Co-sponsored by Sonder Impact.
